American Tigers

This has got to be one of the biggest WTF moments I’ve had recently…

An article from the National Geographic blog (link), says “As few as 3,200 tigers are left in the wild across Asia, down from 100,000 a hundred years ago. America’s 5,000-plus captive tigers are mostly kept by private individuals, not zoos.”

Let that sink in for a second… and read it again:

“As few as 3,200 tigers are left in the wild across Asia, down from 100,000 a hundred years ago. America’s 5,000-plus captive tigers are mostly kept by private individuals, not zoos.” [emphasis mine]

Seriously… PRIVATE AMERICAN CITIZENS keep 1.5 x the number of tigers than are in the WILD IN ASIA…

Now, I’m not a PETA member (nor do I want to be) but this is actually alarming. I mean, seriously, what the fuck…
