“In this video a single Corynactis viridis polyp (about 8mm in diameter) is seen capturing and digesting tiny plankton as they flow past in the current. As the tentacles capture food, they retract towards the animal’s mouth, located at the center of the polyp. The mouth is likewise transformable; capable of extending, expanding, and enveloping food items.”

permalink So there’s a small hardware project I’m playing with for drop.io. A telepresence robot to help me throughout my day while I work from my home office, considering I’m 1,584 miles from HQ.

Short story, long… it’s a netbook on top of a iRobot Create platform.

At any rate, what does this have to do with Jolicloud? It’s the OS that’s running on the netbook! I’m using that as a platform. It’s very netbook friendly and behaves kind of like an iPhone, where you have a simple interface where you can “add apps” and they are part of your “in your face” UI experience.

Of course, with early adopting, there’s always bugs… and this one is no exception. There are lots of really annoying issues with Jolicloud right now, but I’m sure they’ll get taken care of. Lots of password prompts and system nuances, that are results of retrofitting their UI on top of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution.

Either way, give it a try… also check out Moblin, which is another netbook focused Linux distribution.

Goodbye 2009

What a year!

It started out with a bang… we adopted our second pup, Bentley the Regal Beagle

Did lots of planning for a large event, which took place on July 11, 2009. I married the love of my life, Becca Anne.

Beautiful Bride

Learned a lot about cooking

Sold all of my DVD’s… got rid of them while people still believe in physical media :)

Launched version 2.0 of the drop.io API

Got my first passport!

Started to become more giving with my resources… donating lots of clothes, food, and money… enabling entrepreneurs in underdeveloped countries… and joining Big Brothers Big Sisters

Enough about the stuff from this year, which I would say is pretty damn successful…

What’s to come for 2010?

  • Lots of travel! We already have 5 trips planned (3 weddings and 2 vacations)…
  • Keep up my reading pace/increase my reading pace.
  • More cooking classes and training for me… I got some books as gifts that will help with my bases…
  • Attempting to be even more philanthropic this year…
  • Execute on ideas and get rid of my addiction to brain crack
  • drop.io makes me rich and famous :)
  • Explore other realms of knowledge… expand my software skills into other sciences/schools of thought…
  • Work on my memory and attention spans…

And last but not least…

  • Work on improving my husband card and more than likely becoming a father…
