An interesting little twist on the micro-blogging concept... adocu is taking it a step further into nano-blogging...

It's a super simplistic blogging engine / site that only allows you to have a continuous stream of characters (read: no spaces allowed).

adocu

What can it improve on?

  • They just added friends and RSS... thankfully, but they need to have auto-discovery of RSS (meta tags)
  • They need a simple API or a way to add status updates quickly... the website is nice, but something like IM or email would be great as well...

Other than that, they should continue to keep it very very simple... don't want it to be a clone of another service!

Here's mine:

    Jake,

That is exactly how the service is meant to be used! A lot of people are using it like a condensed twitter, but where's the originality in that? And now with the new rule: only alphanumeric updates(except the last 3 characters can be anything), hopefully people will post their status. I really like the ideas you have and some of them we're actually already in the process of putting together right now.

We just purchased a new dedicated server, so we should be getting that all set up with a mail server. Once it's up we will start accepting email updates. The API is on it's way too.

Thank you very much, and keep us updated!

@Jonathan - Thanks for stopping by! The site is working well... but for people with 0 friends the "add as friend" icon doesn't show up... you have to add someone who already has friends to get the workaround (or look at the url http://adocu.com/add/thoughts)

    At any rate... good stuff!

It's basically exactly like twitter. I guess i fail to see the point. You can't even include intersesting links (only allows letters and numbers other than the last 3 chars). After 7 days of reading that my friend is sleeping / peeing / eating / commuting / working / eating /working / socializing / commuting / eating / then sleeping again, it's going to get really old.... really fast.

Perhaps, if they have a ruby backend and only one server it could feel even more like twitter (Twitter, I love you, but you guys are down more than you are up lately).

@Estelle - Thanks for stopping by and offering feedback... I would agree... that it shares similar principles with Twitter... Who knows where it might lead? But then again, you could say that Facebook and Myspace compete with twitter too (on the far other side)...

    It's yet another service :)

@estelle I agree with that. But say you're wondering what some of them are up to, then you can just check their status updates and know immediately. I also enjoy watching the public feed and just seeing what type of things people all around the world are doing.

Currently we're planning on adding way's to communicate with your buddies so it's not just reading what their status is. And we are only temporarily not allowing urls(there will be a workaround soon).

    Thanks again,
    Jonathan
