I’ve been playing with XM Radio since I bought my new car in March and have been pleased… Why did I get it? I listen to my iPod at work a lot… and when I’m riding in the car, I want to listen to something different that’s not on my iPod… and the radio is full of crappy ads. Ick!
There are several channels that peak my interest: The Heat, The City, BPM… etc. and I particularly like the clarity of the sound that comes down through the satellites.
I think another interesting aspect of XM is that they broadcast online as well… with XM Radio ONLINE I can tune into any of the same channels that I enjoy in my car.
The best part about online is that you can see what songs are playing on all of the channels through AJAXy goodness… So now I can pick and choose which channels to listen to just by what song is playing…
Here’s a screenie of the online tool:
Here’s the review…
Pros:
- Clear sound… no buffering or any static at all.
- Works anywhere I go… except when my car is in my garage ;)
- I can listen online at work for free with my subscription.
Cons:
- Doesn’t work in my garage, but who cares.
- Lots of song overlap in the Hip-Hop / Urban section.
- It costs money. $12.95 a month (I got a free 3 month trial + 1 free month cause I paid for a year in advance).
