book ideas

I have been tossing around the idea for the last few years to write a book. Everytime it comes to mind I always spend most of the thought process trying to figure out what type of book and what subject to write on.

I’ve contemplated writing a technical book. The vast range of technologies and topics would easily allow me to focus in on one idea/concept. I could do anything from Ruby on Rails, .Net Development, Genetic Algorithms, SCM, Agile Development… the list goes on and on.

I’ve also tossed around the idea of writing a mockery of a “Self Help” book with John. Maybe even a novel.

The bottom line is: I have a goal to publish one book within 5 years of graduating college. This will be my 4th year out…

What do you guys think I should write about? Any ideas?

    you should write about poop.

Seriously though... you should write a novel about a guy who wants to write a book, but doesn't know what to write about, and he asks some other people what to write about, and this other guy tells him to write about poop. Deep characters, and a captivating story.

Thanks Mike, I'll take that into consideration

I think a technical book detailing a real world application, and its architechture would be a big hit. There really aren't many out there -- if any.

I think you should write a book about WHO IS JAKE and call it DUCKHUNT: The Jake Good Story. It could be turned into a made for tv movie. Hell, I still have the poster I made for you ages ago, lol. "A man with his plastic lightgun, will the lightgun bastard win the day?" I think it could work.

Procrastinate! Go back to skool and buy yourself some more time.

Oh, you wanted a real suggestion? Rails all the way. Lots of people are looking for good books, and right now most things are at the entry level. Focus on the deep features and you'll have yourself an audience.

I vote for Agile! But do it in a pop culture style, make it a bit interesting :)

Maybe I should write a book about a real life Rails project using the Agile methodology... while taking poop and Duck Hunt breaks.
