I’m kind of in a rut here… and I’m looking to my readers (all 2 of you) for advice.
I’m finding that I’m becoming to be bored quite often and I need something exciting and different.
Currently, my life consists of these activities: video games, movies, eating, sleeping, reading, spending time on the laptop, and drinking at bars.
It’s getting to be boring… I want some excitement, I want something new, I want to do things that I’ve never done before… Right now I have the time and resources to actually accomplish this goal, I’m just unaware of what I can do…
Help me figure it out… give me some ideas. No idea is too far fetched, the more interesting… the better.
Volunteer. Take a random community ed class. (Weren’t we going to salsa?) Teach yourself to cook. Learn another language. Plan a big trip or a party or something… And then travel, or party, or whatever. Get back into playing music again. Write a book. Buy a trampoline (and invite me over!!!). Invest. Invent. Explore.
Do something away from the TV/Computer. Jogging, biking, cross country skiing…hey, most of IW is doing a 5k run this weekend. Its not groundbreaking, but it breaks up your day and gives you something to do until the next kickball season.
I’d also agree with Amy’s ‘travel’ comment. There’s all sorts of random places to go (Sundance, skiing or even St Paul).
Whatever you do, blog about it so I can live vicariously through you! :)
Go camping. You could even try backbacking if you feel more adventurous. The Lake Superior Hiking Trail is a few hours away up north – just a backpack, tent, food, some clothes, and the outdoors. You’ll need to invest in a little bit of gear for camping and stuff though.
You could also try the music angle. Buy a cheap guitar and take some lessons. Practicing will definitely take up some time. Buy some looping software and create some music.
I also agree with traveling. There are some gorgeous places to go in the western half of the US – and you can camp and make it cheaper.
Buy a GPS and do some geocaching. http://www.geocaching.com/.
Photography – it’s creative/artistic but you can also satisfy your inner geek with camera tech.
How about flying lessons?
There are beginner adult hockey leagues around town – even for first-time skaters.
All good stuff so far… I’m definitely taking notes.
I am going to try to think of some more wayyyy out of the ordinary places to go or things to do, like Sky Diving…
Code. Not new or exciting. Sorry, but that’s all I do so… code.
CODE!
Oh one other suggestion…
Come to NY! I thought you were coming to NY!
I need to, that’s for sure…
Get a life….
