Well… since other people are posting some of their newly acquired loot, I’ll post some of mine:
Yeah… the ever awesome Becca got me a Timbuk2 bag… HOT! Her parent’s got me a cool Threadless shirt and an awesome Star Wars Lego game for the Wii! My mom got me a sweet watch and some other gifts!
I also ran away with a few gift cards and other things… such a privileged holiday this year!
I used to stare at you as a child… waiting to press start. I was fully aware that I was going to get my ass handed to me on your first or second level, but I still wanted to play you…
I saw this screen too many times… the first level. You move forward and just before you think you’re going to live… YOU DIE! It’s all really sad too, because your little sister got her ass snatched by a clown and you were rescuing her. Now not only did you let yourself down, you let your little sister down too…
Never saw the ending screen… hell I barely made it past the first level half the time…
Lagos, Nigeria is the fastest growing city in the world… starting at 300,000 in 1950 to an estimated 23,000,000 by 2015…
Even smaller cities are forming inside the city, which are run by local “Big Men” who you have to bribe to do things like film their section of the city… Interestingly enough, there is no sanitation system BUT on the last Saturday (?) of the month.. from 7AM till 10AM, NO cars can be on the road and you are mandated by the government to go outside and clean up… “Sanitation is a way of life.” The “Area Boys” stealing $40 from the camera crew cause they run a certain section of the city…
They don’t have enough police, so they have Vigilante guards who do Black Magic…
Head on over and pick it up! You’ll also get a sneak peak at the Entity Framework (you’ll need this), new Silverlight controls, and some new AJAX magic.
Welcome to building websites like us Rails guys have been for a few years :) (Yes, I no longer work in Ruby on Rails, so this will be super nice)
Since I’ve moved down to Texas, I’ve been working remotely from home… Lot’s of software developers work from home and write about their experiences, so I figured I would.
Granted it has been a month, it has been a long enough time for me to figure out what I need to make my work at home successful.
Have a nice desk. Working on a kitchen table or the couch every day can be disastrous to your health… I went out and made my own table at Ikea. I like desks that have a lot of open space and are deep… Cramped corner desks or computer carts are not my thing.
Get a good chair. This could be where I faulted. It’s a decent chair, but I purely got it due to convenience of already being at Ikea.
With the addition of a good keyboard and a wireless mouse…. and some laptop stands, I have a pretty decent home setup going.
At first it was easy to get into a routine of getting up, showering, and walking two rooms over to the desk… but then temptations set in, and believe me, there are lots of temptations. You have to quickly figure out how to battle getting your work done and enjoying your life, being so close to home (in fact, so close that you can smell your dinner). Things are going nicely so far and I’m actually enjoying my time.
Soon enough I’ll get a puppy and that will help with the lonesomeness that comes along with working from home by yourself…
Once again, I know that I’ve only been working from home for a month, but it’s starting to grow on me… just hope I don’t end up getting cabin fever…
